Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some things you can check yourself before your call Wesley Wood Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your furnace will still not turn on, give Wesley Wood Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 484-401-7577 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
